I'm so like Homer!

I'm Homer, who are you? by Lexi

of course, the Sea Gals now have new outfits as well

Well, blue vs. silver is the question on the day, and, as always, I have an opinion:

I know of only one NCAA Div. 1 or NFL team that has TWO helmet colors, that would be the pesky Kittycats from the Palouse (WSU) who wear their crimson helmets with their white away jerseys, and grey (silver) with their crimson home jerseys.

Are you listening, Seahawks. Take the plunge, become the first (and only) NFL team to off two helmets. The blue with the away whites, and the silver with the home blues.

DO IT!

well, take a look and vote on the new Seahawks uniform scheme

I have long considered the two greatest threats to our proud and sacred Freedom, developed by a group of wise and thoughtful Malcontents and Insolent Hotheads some 250 years ago, to come from the Religious Right and the Lawyers.

There is no doubt that our overly litigious society has spelled the doom for many a proud institution. Even "progressive" cases, such as the nearly universally lauded "Title IX" ruling from the 70's, which demanded "equality" for women's intercollegiate sports, which has done little more than effectively kill once strong men's programs, which were once a vibrant part of many University athletics programs that truly existed at ONLY at the Amatuer level, such as wrestling and cross-country. This infection of perverse over-litigation has seeped into every pore of our society.

Combined with Insurance companies, powerful mega-law firms and "representation agencies" have created a de-facto government, in many ways more powerful and able to strike quicker than the federal government. Many of you probably think I'm paranoid, or crazy, or a weird conspiracy theorist. Those of you who KNOW me will understand that I may be crazy, but certainly not the other two. This ISN'T paranoia or conspiracy-mongering, because it HAPPENS. It happens to people I know who have the best intentions to just have fun and (try) to make a few bucks -- say, like about $10.

Click here to see just what it is I'm talking about.

To people like Mark Roesler, we are pawns in his game of economic domination. He probably makes much more than $10 every time he takes a shit, before picking it up and slinging it like the depraved simian that he is, the joke of evolution and natural selection.

How is this shit NOT like the mafia. They build up power and influence to the point where the "protection" they offer is from themselves. Their goal is to control enough of the money floating around to intimidate anyone who has an inkling to contest their despotistic reign.

But what probably bothers me most comes from a more personal level. Although I recognize that many of our mostly ignorant society are also intimidated by the brain power at work in the system, I am not, and I suspect (and know) that many of my friend aren't either. I KNOW I am just as intellectually capable and intelligent as these people. The mere fact that they have chosen a Dark path of deceit and preying on the weaknesses in our culture, and only helping to deteriorate the human condition, does not make them Better than me.

So today I got my golf schwerve on... to the extent that I can. I've played 9 (bad) holes and a trip to the driving range this season, so I wasn't expecting much when I joined Tad and his friend from work, Craig, for 18 at Mt. Si Golf Course.

Mt Si is flat, pretty wide open, and relatively dry (at least for today). I started out the first tee hitting a great drive -- for me. It was my only straight one of the day. I ended up with a 5 on the hole (par 4) and feeling really good about myself. Of course, I quickly fell apart and carded a 9 on the par-4 3rd hole.

My first nine were tolerable. Even though my drives weren't straight, I was making them playable, and while my "keep it simple with a short backswing" approach to hitting netted me very little distance, I did manage to keep it in the fairway most of the day. I made the turn at 55, which seems outrageously high -- and is -- but was "only" 5 over my "target" of 50, and given that I hardly ever play golf... well, let's just say I wasn't too upset.

The back nine I really started to feel good. My drives weren't much straighter, but occasionally I'd hit one well, without TOO much slice, and have a workable second shot. I hit the 11th green (par 4) in two, then gave a solid two-putt for my only par of the day. Hey, to me a par is a birdie and a bogey is a par, I'll take it. Of course, in typical Jake "flogging" fashion, on the very next hole it took me five to reach the green.

In fact, on the 18th, I reached in two again, upping my total of Greens in Regulation (1 stroke for a par 3, 2 for a par 4, and 3 for a par 5) to 2, but I 3-putted for a 5, which given my LONG first putt was acceptable to me. I was just happy with the awesome 4-iron shot I nailed to reach the green after a less-than-inspiring tee shot. Tad picked up a birdie, a great way for him to finish after what had been a pretty miserable round for him.

I guess I should point out the fact that being able to even Discuss the round in the manner I am means I did really well, I'm actually very pleased with how I did, especially considering I shot 48 for the back nine, for a total of 103. Even thought I took A LOT of mulligans -- more than I want to admit, the fact I hit as many decent shots as I did was almost alarming to me. It turned out to be a very pleasant afternoon, and now I'm pretty enthusiastic about hitting the links again soon.

Sat. night here at the House we had a little "gathering" to observe Capt. Jon's 27 b-day (which was actually on the 17th, when he was on the road). Among the participants were Mike & mary, Vicki, and Anneke's roommate Amber. She showed up with a 6-pack of Zima under her arm, and, before she even got in the door, I had corrected her by cracking open a Getherdrunk Hard Cider and insisting she consume that instead. We ended up comsuming various and sundry adult beverages, including some Glenmorangie Port Wood finished 12-year Scotch. Ryu (Mike) showed up with some 21-year Balvenie as a gift. Bastard, always trying to outdo me. Other than drinking, some pool and cribbage were played, as well as about the 1,316 viewing of "Dr. Strangelove" amidst the chaos.
