So it’s been a crazy summer, and I have Completely neglected this page and this BLOG. Well, I’ll do my best to see that it doesn’t continue. I guess I’ll get started by what has been going on: We can all blame Jon’s wedding for screwing everything up. Well, that may be harsh, but I was commissioned to create no less than four (4!) batches of beer for the reception. As you can imagine, this pretty well clogged up the production here at the Brewery from mid May through mid July, after which I was more or less burned out on beer making. I never really presented any of these beers on the page, as they weren’t being made for general consumption. But they were consumed enthusiastically by many or my regular beer drinkers who were in attendance. At some point, I’d like to get up a page describing and reviewing the beer for that momentous occasion. As you can gather, the Barley Wine became a Strong Ale, owing to the fact I didn’t get quite the yeast action I was gunning for. Either way, it will age, as planned, and be available in October. I did manage to brew my Fall beer (not yet named, or with a designed label) involving the touch of Real Maple Syrup in the wort. It is a relatively simple beer, aside from the syrup, with an amber-red color, and should have a nice, clean, refreshing finish. There is probably a need to address the notorious Pineapple Island “Pale” Ale, which wasn’t a “pale” at all, but really more of a dark amber. My half of the run was consumed mainly at a getaway to Idaho in Mid July, and the response was mainly positive. I’m not sure if Ryu has any of his stash left, or he consumed/gave it away for his birthday. It was good enough to convince us to try similarly daring ventures in the future, that’s for sure… maybe even a pineapple lambic! So far this month I have brewed a couple more beers for people’s weddings. I’m making a dunkelweizen (slightly different and stronger than the 3-cubed version) for cousin Andy’s wedding on October 12, and a remake of Piss-Free Pilsner for Jason’s wedding the following weekend. In the meantime, nothing is due out for general consumption until Oktoberfest (starting Sept 21, I think) when the Fall beer will be out, then the “Strong Ale” by Halloween. In the planning stages are a Thanksgiving beer (a cranberry-wheat) and a duo of winter-warmer/Christmas/winter solstice/new year’s beer’s, tentatively called the “light” and the “dark.” Color aside, they will both be strong and hearty, in the traditional of winter seasonals. |
